A Wrinkle in Time Musical Adaptation Is in the Works
Madeleine L’Engle’s famous children’s novel, A Wrinkle in Time, is being developed into a new musical adaptation. L’Engle’s granddaughter, author Charlotte Jones Voiklis is managing the project as head of her grandmother’s literary estate.
So far, the musical’s team has announced that the production will feature composer, Heather Wilson, and a written by Lauren Yee. Obie Award winner Lee Sunday Evans is set to direct the musical.

Voiklis states that “Knowing my grandmother’s love of and devotion to theater, I had long envisioned a musical adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time.” She believes the creative team will enhance the novel by exploring different ways how it can be portrayed on stage. The music and staging will give fans of the original novel a chance to view the classic story in ways only musical theatre can showcase.
A Wrinkle in Time is a beloved story published in 1963. The novel follows Meg Murry, a young girl whose father disappeared while experimenting with time travel. Meg and her brother Charles Wallace venture on a journey through time and space, battling evil in an attempt to find their father and save the universe. They encounter several other eccentric characters, some human and some not, and create an enchanting story along the way.
The film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time was released in 2018. The movie was directed by Ava DuVernay and starred Storm Reid as Meg. Mindy Kaling, Oprah Winfrey, and Reese Witherspoon were also part of the cast starring as the Mrs. W’s, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsit. Chris Pine also took part in the star-studded cast as Meg’s father.

The film made over $100 million at the box office. DuVernay’s female-focused vision of the story garnered love from many fans who grew up loving A Wrinkle in Time.
