Celebrate the Holidays With the New Hip Hop Nutcracker on Disney+
The holidays are right around the corner, and Disney+ has got your movie night covered with The Hip Hop Nutcracker. Inspired by Jennifer Weber’s touring stage production, the film puts a modern, hip-hop twist on the original classical ballet, The Nutcracker.
Expect a lot fewer pirouettes and a whole lot more headspins as Run DMC’s Rev Run takes the audience on a magical story set in a New York City New Year’s Eve party. Maria-Clara (Caché Melvin) is brought down by her parents (Allison Holker Boss and Stephen “tWitch” Boss) arguing. From there, Maria-Clara enlists the help of the toymaker, Drosselmeyer (Comfort Fedoke), and Nutcracker (Du-Shant “Fik-shun” Stegall), who she brings to life to help get her parents back together.
Just like in the original, Maria-Clara takes to the streets of NYC to battle the Mice and Toy Soldiers. She has until midnight to make it to the Land of Sweets to grant her wish of her parents’ making up.
The Hip Hop Nutcracker is sure to be a whirlwind of dance with star-studded choreographers. The choreographers include NappyTabs, Hokuto “HOK” Konishi, Phillip Chbeeb, Makenzie Dustman, Luther Brown, D-Trix, and Jennifer Weber. Additionally, viewers can expect world-class dancers Mikhail Baryshnikov, Tiler Peck, KidaTheGreat, and the Jabbawockeez. As well as So You Think You Can Dance favorites Bailey Muñoz, Comfort Fedoke, Fik-shun, Allison Holker Boss, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, and many more.
