Lea Michele Announces New Funny Girl Broadway Album
Nobody can rain on Funny Girl fans’ parades today. Lea Michele, the musical’s star, revealed that the cast is releasing an original Broadway cast album.
Lea Michele, who is currently starring in Funny Girl as Fanny Brice, announced news of the album after her performance on Wednesday evening. Her announcement came from the August Wilson theater and was broadcasted on the production’s Instagram.
Michele stated to the audience, “We have a little secret that we want to let you all in on. We’re all so so proud to announce that we are going to be releasing our original cast Broadway album.”
The Glee actress also took the opportunity to show appreciation for her fellow cast and crew. She added, “Everyone here who is working so incredibly hard every single night also worked so hard in the studio to make such an incredible album that I heard. And as the biggest Funny Girl fan my entire life, I’m so proud of it. It is so, so, so great.”
The Today Show announced the album on Thursday morning, as well. In addition to the news, the program shared a teaser of the cast recording “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” one of the most popular songs from the musical.

Michele, a broadway veteran best known for her role in Spring Awakening, took over the starring role in Funny Girl on September 6. She followed Beanie Feldstein, the first to play Fanny Brice in the show’s revival. To round out the lead cast, Michele is accompanied by Ramin Karimloo (Nick Arnstein), Jaren Grimes (Eddie Ryan), and Tovah Feldshuh (Rosie Brice).
Lea Michele being cast as Fanny Brice was exciting for many Glee fans because of her character’s connection to the musical. Since the fanbase for Funny Girl has grown exponentially since she joined the cast, fans have had many reactions to the album.

The Funny Girl revival cast’s Broadway recording album will be released on all streaming platforms on November 18. A CD for the album will also be available on January 23, 2023.
