Zayn Malik Releases Stunning New Jimi Hendrix Cover
One Direction alum Zayn Malik is back with new music. The singer paid homage to the late legend, Jimi Hendrix, in honor of his monumental eightieth birthday.
On November 25, Zayn announced the release of “Angel,” a cover from Hendrix’s posthumous album, The Cry of Love. He expresses, “Being asked to collaborate to celebrate @jimihendrix 80th birthday was such an unexpected and huge honour. I have so much respect and admiration for Jimi, his music, and fans. ‘Angel’ is out now – hope you love the track as much as I do. Happy 80th Jimi.”
A spokesperson for the late rock star’s estate revealed, “We are pleased that Zayn has been inspired to use original music from Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Angel’ in his recording of the song. We’re hopeful that this version of a Hendrix classic will enlighten a new generation of listeners about Jimi’s genius and further propel his continuing legacy.”
Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle on November 27, 1942. He is most notably known for his debut album, Are You Experienced. The “Bold as Love” singer had a string of successful songs such as “Purple Haze,” “Hey Joe,” and “Foxy Lady.” The singer died in 1970 at the age of 27.
Although his career did not span long, his influence on blues music and the electric guitar remains palpable. His longevity as an artist continues to inspire new generations of fans all over the world. Zayn has gifted fans a beautiful cover, undoubtedly doing the rock star justice.
