Starship Entertainment’s nine-member boy group, CRAVITY, entered the K-pop scene amid the pandemic, unknowing of the many successes and accomplishments that would occur in the years to come.

Since their powerful debut titled “Break all the Rules,” they have gained attention not only for their catchy comebacks, such as “Gas Pedal” and “Adrenaline,” but also for their bubbly personalities. By experimenting with various concepts, the boys have been able to explore different styles of music and appeal to fans across the industry.

This summer, they decided to switch things up with a pre-release of their first fully-English track, “BOOGIE WOOGIE.” Its bright and energetic sound complements the theme of their most recent comeback perfectly—an end-of-the-summer jam made for everyone. Members Serim, Allen, Jungmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung, and Seongmin have many ambitions for future music.

As they begin to incorporate their love for songwriting and lyricism into each upcoming release, their discography is bound to develop a voice of its own. CRAVITY have much lying in store for them, and we cannot wait to see what is next.

GLITTER: So, getting things started, I just want to say congratulations on your comeback!

CRAVITY: Yeah! Thank You.

GLITTER: “PARTY ROCK” is such a bright and upbeat track. It is perfect for the end of the summer, so I am wondering what inspired you to turn in this direction for your comeback.

SEONGMIN: We have always wanted to show the bright and energetic side of us. Being natural and having freedom suit who we truly are, and we think that listeners can discover the positivity we are bringing through this album.

GLITTER: I really love it! It is such a nice song to listen to, and the dance tune is really energetic. So that is amazing. Do you have any highlights you can share from the filming and creation of this track?

TAEYOUNG: Do we have any highlights?

JUNGMO: SERIM and ALLEN worked on writing the lyrics for “PARTY ROCK.”

ALLEN: Yeah! I wrote it in my room. It was pretty fun.

GLITTER: Oh, nice. How was that process like?

ALLEN: The parts were actually pretty short, so it was pretty hard coming up with the rhymes or lines that are kind of catchy. But it was a great challenge! I really enjoyed working on it, and I am happy with how it came out.

GLITTER: Yes, I love it a lot! I have been listening to a lot of your music, and I realized that your discography is so diverse! So, I was wondering how each of you has been able to express yourselves through these varying concepts.

TAEYOUNG: I believe there is no limit when it comes to different styles of music. Each one of us has our own charming points as well as strong points. So I think that is our “way” to get a large spectrum of music.

GLITTER: With all these different styles of music in your album, what have been each of your favorite songs?

JUNGMO: My favorite song is “Colorful.” Our member WOOBIN produced that song!

GLITTER: Yeah! I was going to say that we all know that “Colorful” was written by WOOBIN. But I wonder what the creative process was like and if you ever receive input from your fellow members.

WOOBIN: Yes! I wrote “Colorful” with both CRAVITY and LUVITY on my mind rather than focusing on the color itself. I tried to use different types of colors as a metaphor to express different emotions. Yes! I really tried my best!

GLITTER: Yeah, I really love it. It is really uplifting and bright. So when you connect to LUVITY, I was wondering, since you guys went to KCON this summer, what was that experience like?

ALLEN: It was like a dream.

SERIM: Of course! We would love to go on a world tour anywhere and everywhere.

TAEYOUNG: Wherever LUVITY is! We would love to go on a tour like KCON. Performing at KCON is one of the best memories we have made in the U.S. so far. We were really hyped up that time.

GLITTER: It is really amazing. So, if you were to visit any other places on tour, if you guys have been planning anything, what are some of the places that you really like to visit?

HYEONGJUN: Indonesia!

TAEYOUNG: I lived in Malaysia when I was young, so maybe Malaysia for me?

ALLEN: And the Philipiines!

WONJIN: We went on a U.S. tour, so I want to go to Europe next time!

GLITTER: Have you guys been to Europe?

ALLEN: We have been to Europe just once.

GLITTER: Oh, it is really nice. Traveling the world is always so amazing.

ALLEN: Yeah, it is.

GLITTER: What have been some of your most played songs recently? Anything that is inspiring you or that you plan on taking influence in the future?

ALLEN: I would say our songs! I have been listening to a lot of the songs on our album. Anybody else?

JUNGMO: I listen to “New Addiction” these days. especially in the morning because I like WOOBIN’s ad-libs. After the bridge! Where he sings the last part of the hook! It never fails to wake me up in the morning.

SEONGMIN: I listen to BENEE’s music these days! I recommend “Snail” by BENEE.

HYEONGJUN: JAX’s “Like My Father” for me!

GLITTER: I really like some of your guys’ B-side tracks like “VENI VIDI VICI.” I have been listening to it a lot, so I really love your guys’ music.

CRAVITY: Nice! Thank you!

GLITTER: Of course! You are all so talented and it is really nice to see you guys bursting into the K-pop scene especially after debuting during the pandemic. It must have been difficult to readjust to the process.

ALLEN: It was not like we had to do a lot of readjusting since everything was a first for us. It was definitely something that we got back to any performers/singers who should have had since the beginning. But we are thankful. We are surviving.

GLITTER: What must it have felt like when you guys finally started performing in front of the audience?

ALLEN: What was it like performing in front of the audience?

CRAVITY: Happy!

MINHEE: It was really exciting!

WONJIN: The energy was different.

ALLEN: We get lots of energy. We dance much harder in front of the actual live audience as compared to before.

GLITTER: It is always amazing to actually have people there in front of you to perform and to display your talents too.

ALLEN: Yeah, we would definitely love to perform in front of you someday.

GLITTER: Yeah, definitely! I will be looking forward to it if you guys ever come back. So what are you planning on doing in the future?

ALLEN: I want to write songs like WOOBIN. I want to write songs for fans just to be more personal with them.

TAEYOUNG: Me too, me too!

SEONGMIN: Me too!

WOOBIN & TAEYOUNG: You too?

SEONGMIN: Yes! I want to write lyrics.

GLITTER: Have you guys created anything? Do you have sneak peeks or anything like that? Any teasers?

ALLEN: Anything we have created?

WOOBIN: ALLEN has lots of self-produced songs!

ALLEN: I do not know if we are allowed to spoil it here or not.

GLITTER: We will definitely be looking forward to that in the future. So what would you like new fans or maybe new listeners to know about your group?

ALLEN: I hope new listeners or new fans will first of all listen to all our songs and realize how versatile we can be, and just how good our songs are. I do not know. But I just hope new fans really see each and every one of our talents. Not just musically or artistically. We are also really funny in variety shows. We are really bright, cute, pretty, and handsome!

GLITTER: I agree!

ALLEN: Definitely! Be on the lookout for us in the future.

GLITTER: Yeah! You guys already have such amazing music so far, but I was wondering if you ever would like to try any new styles or any new concepts?

JUNGMO: Dreamy style!

SERIM: I want to try a sexy concept.

ALLEN: Maybe in a couple of years?

GLITTER: I know that ALLEN said he would like to wear uniforms.

ALLEN: Yeah, uniforms!

GLITTER: That would be really interesting to see! Our magazine specifically launched their self-love campaign in 2015. We have been asking many different artists about what self-love means to them. So how do you like to express that?

TAEYOUNG: My life model is self-love. I believe a healthy mindset leads to a healthy body. So you have to love yourself. I believe that is how you should live your life.

ALLEN: TAEYOUNG says it is really important to have self-love while doing a job like this.

GLITTER: Definitely. It is always something that you would like to convey to your fans, like spreading awareness since it is really important. Right?

ALLEN: We want to emphasize that more in our music maybe later on so that our fans can know that you guys should all love yourselves. We want to spread the positive message through our music, through what we do as singers.

GLITTER: So I want to say thank you guys so much for having this talk with me today.

CRAVITY: Thank you!
