Keough knew that she would portray Daisy Jones, despite knowing nothing about the project. She revealed, “All I knew is she goes, ‘it’s called Daisy Jones & the Six, and it’s about a band in the ’70s.’ And in my head, I was like, I know I’m playing Daisy. I just knew it. I don’t even know if one script was written, I didn’t know if they liked me, and I hadn’t even talked to them at that stage.”

In addition, the Zola actress comes from a very musical family. Her parents, Lisa Marie Presley and Danny Keough are both musicians. Her mother is the daughter of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, making Keough Elvis’ granddaughter.
Keough really did the work to get the role of Daisy, learning to “belt out” songs. She states, “I was like, I can’t do it, and when I can’t do something it lights a fire in me to be able to do it… I’m gonna go to this vocal coach, and he’s gonna teach me how to f*cking belt, whatever I need to do to get this. It really became about pushing myself to do things I’ve never done before.”

Claflin had a similar experience. He worked hard with vocal coaches and guitar teachers over Zoom. Lauren Levy Neustadter, the executive producer, was amazed by his “dedication and transformation.” She states, “During COVID he was in England with his kids, and he was homeschooling them during the day, and he would take care of them, and then he would put them to sleep and he would get on a Zoom to [learn how to] play the guitar.”
Claflin was proud of the end result. He revealed, “When I first got that guitar put in my hand, [I thought] this is not gonna feel right with this in my hand. But by the end of it, I just felt like Billy, Billy felt like me. It just pours out of me.”
