After years of mystery surrounding a potential album drop, SZA revitalizes fans with the release of her long-awaited sophomore album SOS.

Fans held speculations about when SZA would bless their hearts with a new project. Since the release of her 2017 cult classic Ctrl, SZA has been the “It” girl of music.

Her soulful voice and penetrative lyrics guided a generation of young people toward self-discovery and young adulthood. The relatability of SZA’s music led fans into a frenzy upon the news of a new release. Many fans reflected upon their growth, coinciding with SZA’s maturity as an artist and as a person.

Nevertheless, the waiting period for her new album held many conflicts. In a series of deleted tweets, the artist hinted at a turbulent relationship with her music label, Top Dawg Entertainment. She took to Twitter and tweeted “BEEN hostile,” after a fan questioned if her relationship with TDE was “adverse or hostile.”

Fortunately, SZA had not been completely absent from music during this waiting period. She was featured in numerous hits and projects since 2017 such as “All the Stars” from Black Panther: The Album, “fue mejor” by Kali Uchis, and many more. During this time, she also won a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group alongside fellow superstar Doja Cat for “Kiss Me More.”

However, fans still desired the unique artistry that only a project from SZA could deliver. Since its release, SOS has been named nothing short of amazing. The project features a tracklist of 23 unique songs that could each stand alone as singles. Somehow they still band together to convey a deeper message of unapologetic humanity. Thanks to the enlisted help from industry stars like Phoebe Bridgers, Jay Versace, Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and the late Ol’ Dirty B**tard, SZA created a genre-bending project like no other.

This album drew so much attention, it sold a whopping 275-300K units in its first week. This puts the project on track to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, which would make it her first-ever No.1 album. In addition, SZA became the first Black female artist to reach the #1 spot of the most streamed artists daily.

Also, fans can look forward to seeing SZA in a city near them. She announced that she will be hitting the road in 2023 via Instagram. Fans can gear up for the eventful ticket sale day on Friday, December 16. View the music video for “Nobody Gets Me,” from SOS down below.
