Based on a book by Richard Russo called Straight Man, AMC’s Lucky Hank follows the reluctant chairman, William Henry Devereaux, who goes through one terrible week. From having his nose slashed by an angry co-worker, imagining his wife having an affair with the dean, and threatening to murder a goose on TV, William has truly given in to his mid-life crisis.

In this upcoming comedy series, Bob Odenkirk (Nobody) will embody the role of Railton College’s English department chairman. From entering the horrific world of World War Z to starring in the romance film If I Stay, Mireille Enos now stars as Odenkirk’s television wife, Lily Devereaux in Lucky Hank. In addition, Hayley Sales (Deadpool 2) Olivia Scott Welch (Fear Street: Part One – 1994), Chris Gethard (The Dictator), and Jackson Kelly (Portrait of a Young Man) will also be featured in the series.

Bob Odenkirk’s expertise has always been comedy. He grew up trying to make it big in the entertainment industry doing stand-up and small roles in film and television. But finally, he was able to land his breakthrough role as the sleazy criminal lawyer, Saul Goodman, in the critically acclaimed series Breaking Bad

Odenkirk’s role as Saul Goodman is known for his quick-witted and charming humor, as well as his emotive hand gestures. After Breaking Bad ended, the creator of the series, Vince Gilligan, began crafting a spin-off series called Better Call Saul, which featured the origins of Saul Goodman, before the colorful suits and ties and tarnished morals.

After Better Call Saul’s season finale in August, the spin-off series has won a total of 32 accolades as well as 200 nominations throughout its six-season run. Despite not wanting to let his character, Saul Goodman, go after years of embodying him, Odenkirk announced that he would be pursuing other projects, including his upcoming role in Lucky Hank.

The Nobody actor claims he is excited to become “a humorously disgruntled professor dealing with the world of academia and the security and instability of that world.”

“I loved Paul and Aaron’s take on Richard’s excellent, entertaining novel. Once again a project with AMC with a focus on character depth and sensitivity,” Odenkirk stated. He adds ”I am drawn to the tone of humanity and humor in the novel and I look forward to playing this role – something lighter than my recent projects but still closely observed and smart.”

Lucky Hank’s teaser was released on January 10, featuring a dolly close-up of Bob Odenkirk’s face as he narrates “I’ve always been a difficult man, I specialize in minor strife and insignificant irritation. That’s my lane.” The short clip ends with the title card and a goose walking tentatively in front of an office, ominously hinting at the goose subplot.

From one fictional mid-life crisis to the next, Bob Odenkirk has a knack for depicting morally complex but likable characters on screen. In his past roles, Odenkirk has proven to be not only to be an expert in comedy but also capable of delivering emotional and captivating performances. Stay tuned for Lucky Hank’s premiere on AMC on March 19. Fans can watch the teaser down below.
