It has been twenty years since Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson captivated audiences with their golden 2003 romantic comedy, How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days.

The cult classic film directed by Donald Petrie also starred Adam Goldberg, Kathryn Hahn, Michael Michele, and Bebe Neuwirth. How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days follows advice columnist, Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson), who comes up with the idea to write a piece about how to get a man to leave you in just ten days. Her editor, Lana (Bebe Neuwirth), surprisingly loves the idea, and Andie begins the search for a man that will become part of her experiment. She finds Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey), the hotshot executive, who is overly confident that he can charm any woman to fall in love with him in ten days. Once Andie and Ben meet, their plans take a drastic turn.

In December, Hudson spoke at a BAFTA Life in Pictures event in London, where she expressed how hard she fought for McConaughey to land the role. She stated, “We had an energy together, I wanted to play with him… I’m such a cheerleader for actors in our industry, but for rom-coms, you need that guy to have chemistry with.”

The chemistry between Hudson and McConaughey was everything to fans. The two later appeared together in the 2008 action romantic comedy, Fool’s Gold. Hudson adds of their dynamic, “We like to push each other and I just love Matthew’s commitment to everything. He’s razor-focused.”

How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days continues to gain popularity each and every year, especially with the new generation. Hudson loves that the film has been able to stick with women, stating, “On [Glass Onion] during press, so many young — now there’s a new generation of journalists who would say ‘Andie Anderson made me want to be a journalist.’ There was a very feminist twist to that movie and it really inspired young girls and that makes me so happy.”

How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days will always remain one of the most iconic rom-coms. In honor of twenty years, fans can celebrate the film by watching it on Netflix.
