Sony’s Big George Foreman Drops New Trailer and Poster
Sony’s Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World action drama slated for April 28, stars Khris Davis (Space Jam: New Legacy), Jasmine Mathews (The Tomorrow War), Sullivan Jones (The Gilded Age), Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (The Walking Dead), John Magaro (The Umbrella Academy), Sonja Sohn (Star Trek: Discovery) and Forest Whitaker (Black Panther).
Sony Pictures dropped an impactful new trailer and poster for the anticipated film which is based on the true story of the greatest heavyweight boxer who also claimed minister and serial entrepreneur among his other titles. Many die-hard fans remember the old-school ’90s infomercials with Foreman’s signature smile outside the ring which reportedly earned him over 250 Million dollars.
Foreman’s life began with economic struggles which in turn caused him a good amount of pent-up rage. Through perseverance, he made his way to becoming an Olympic Gold medalist and World Heavyweight Champion. Not without continued roadblocks in his adult life, the athlete had a near-death experience where his heart stopped beating after a fight which had him contemplating his life in the ring. This lead him to take a more spiritual and religious career path as a minister; he wanted to share what he saw in that experience with others.
In tune with his sense of community and its financial strife and wanting to make a larger imprint and difference in the world, Foreman returned to boxing making history by reclaiming his title and becoming the oldest and most unexpected World Heavyweight Boxing Champion.
Forest Whitaker stars as Doc Broadus, Foreman’s trainer who actually introduced him to boxing. Khris Davis stars as Foreman and Sullivan takes on the role of Muhammad Ali. The Ali and Foreman fights were legendary and included the “Rumble in the Jungle” match, with the name coined by Don King, which took place in 1974 Zaire. It was Africa’s first heavyweight match with Ali taking down 25-year-old champion George Foreman in the eighth round.
The exciting trailer opens with an impoverished look at Foreman’s childhood as well as the mocking from peers which resulted in George taking his anger out in uppercuts. It also showcases George’s coach, who has guided him through the ring, his spiritual and business journey, and eventually features him matched up with Ali.
Make sure to check out the trailer below and see the film exclusively in theaters on April 28.
