Behind the scenes, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was directed by co-collaborators of Teen Titans Go! and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The screenplay comes from Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Minions: The Rise of Gru). Fans are excited about the team and what they will create to build upon the legendary franchise.
Okay, now knowing that Fogel is on this pretty much adds onto this being a pretty good directing/writing team for a Mario movie.

LEGO Movie 2 is on par with the original for me and I’ll even admit that what I have seen of Minions: Rise Of Gru looks enjoyably crazier. pic.twitter.com/xfj5pfxxOZ
The creative team behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie has blended iconic and dear characters with a freshness for fans new and old to enjoy.
The movie looks good and, while it’s taking cues from the games, it seems to be offering a slightly new interpretation of the Mario universe in terms of how the kingdom appears and how the cast is portrayed. It also seems to adapt some stuff from the old cartoons. Pretty cool.
