HBO’s New Series The Idol Is Set to Release in June
The highly anticipated series, The Idol is planning to debut in June. The star-studded drama is created by the “sick and twisted” minds of the famous musician Abel Tesfaye, aka, The Weekend, and Sam Levinson.
Apart from his work as a producer, The Weekend is set to make an appearance in the series. The “Blinding Lights” singer has already acted in Uncut Gems and has demonstrated his passion for dramatic performances in his music videos.
In this six-episode series, The Weekend will showcase his talents for screenwriting and acting in a grand setting. Besides teaming up with Levinson (Euphoria), he is also collaborating with Creative producer Reza Fahim, who will bring his unique cinematic style and storytelling to the screen.
This star-studded series features lead actors such as Lily-Rose Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp, in the protagonist role, and Abel Tesfaye as her love interest. But this isn’t Depp’s first rodeo on the big screen. She previously starred in Netflix’s historical drama film, The King, as well as the sci-fi thriller Voyagers.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie is making her debut in the drama series along with other familiar faces in Hollywood. Furthermore, Troye Sivan, Anne Heche (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Rachel Sennott (Bodies Bodies Bodies), and Nico Hiraga (Booksmart), will also appear in the series among many other cast members.
The series’ creators have described The Idol as “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood,” and stated it will primarily focus on the music industry. According to W Magazine, the story follows Jocelyn’s (Lily Rose-Depp) professional life and struggles, while also revealing her complicated romantic relationship with self-help guru, Tedros (The Weeknd), who also happens to be the leader of a secret cult.
The highly anticipated series will be worth the wait, so stay tuned for the final release date. Fans can watch the trailer down below.
