International Artist of the Year Winner: Beyoncé
Beyoncé was named the International Artist of the Year at the Brit Awards and accepted the honor via video last Saturday.
This year’s Brit Awards were star-studded and filled with plenty of memorable moments. Although she was not physically in attendance this year, Beyoncé received two awards, one of which was International Artist of the Year. Beating out an impressive list of contenders, including Lizzo, Taylor Swift, and Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé humbly accepted the award in a video wearing a sequined black and white jumpsuit with lavish fur accents. In her heartfelt speech, she thanked her fans for their continuous support over the years and stated: “The renaissance begins. I’ll see y’all on tour.”
In addition to winning International Artist of the Year, her hit single “Break My Soul” won International Song of the Year. These awards come after Beyoncé took home several Grammys for the work on her seventh studio album, Renaissance, such as Best Dance/Electronic Album and Best R&B Performance. Her wins at this year’s Grammys secured her as the record-holder for most all-time Grammy wins in history.
While many fans were disappointed that her most recent album did not win the Grammy for Album of the Year, they have plenty to look forward to as Beyoncé begins her Renaissance World Tawour this May, as mentioned in her acceptance speech.
The tour, which was announced on February 1, will begin in Stockholm and finish in New Orleans. Beyoncé’s Instagram post announcing the tour quickly became one of her account’s most-liked photos, and an immediate frenzy for tickets followed.
The Bey Hive has long awaited this tour. Her last solo stadium tour was the Formation World Tour for her album Lemonade in 2016. Fans have already begun buzzing about the highly anticipated world tour, analyzing seats and speculating about her setlist. Several tour dates have already sold out, with fans desperately trying to get their hands on tickets before they’re gone.
