Selena Gomez Responds to Haters with Self-Love in New TikTok
Selena Gomez isn’t a stranger to attacks on her body from haters and the singer, 30, opened up about her recent weight gain in a TikTok Live video.
In the video, the beauty mogul addressed recent criticism about her most recent weight gain which she attributed to her Lupus medication.
“When I’m taking it, I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally. When I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight,” Gomez explained in a shared video from Twitter. “I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through and no one knows the real story.”

The actress prioritizes her health over everything.
“I just want people to know that you’re beautiful, and you’re wonderful,” she stated. “Yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like sh*t, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me.”
In addition, the Only Murders in the Building star shared how she wanted to share the video to help people with whatever they’re going through.
“I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through and nobody knows the real story. I just want people to know that you’re beautiful,” she shared.
Gomez claimed she was “not a model” and “never would be,” then wrapped up the video with a message for her fans and body-shamers.
“I love you guys and thanks for supporting me and understanding. And if not, go away, because honestly, I don’t believe in shaming people for their body or anything,” she concluded the video.

Despite the negativity, Gomez was met with love and support from her fans.
Selena Gomez shouldn’t have to explain her weight and how her lupus medication effects it. People need to grow up and stop body shaming women.

In 2015, the actress opened up about her chronic, ongoing battle with Lupus, an autoimmune disease that attacks the body and the organs. However, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus myositis rheumatoid overlap, which causes inflammation of the joints and muscles in which she underwent chemotherapy. It was in 2017 when she had a kidney transplant. It was a combination of undergoing the transplant and criticism from haters when she noticed her weight fluctuation.
“I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me, that’s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff,” she explained during an interview in 2019.
“It’s the medication I have to take for the rest of my life — it depends on even the month, to be honest,” Gomez added. “So for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. And in reality, that’s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends on what’s happening in my life.”
