Everything Everywhere All at Once has been the darling of award shows for the past few months. On Oscars night, all eyes will be on the film due to the awards it may take home and the exciting Best Song Performance featuring one of the stars from the film, Stephanie Hsu.

Everything Everywhere All At Once has a nomination for Best Song for the song “This is a Life.” The song was written by David Byrne, Son Lux, and Mitski, who perform it on the soundtrack. However, this will change a little at the Oscars. On February 27, there was an announcement that Stephanie Hsu would be taking the place of Mitski at the Oscars ceremony, where she will perform alongside David Byrne and Son Lux.

Hsu has become a breakout star with her role as Joy Wang in EEAO, leading her to an Oscar nomination. While Hsu is not one of the original singers for “This is a Life,” she sang “Sucked into a Bagel” for the EEAO soundtrack. Hsu also started singing by doing musical theater, as she was in the Broadway productions Be More Chill and The SpongeBob Musical. Hsu has a history of performing, so the Oscars will certainly be a time for her to shine.

David Byrne, who will also be performing “This is a Life,” has a long history in music. As a lead singer for the wildly popular new wave band Talking Heads, Byrne has cemented himself in music history. He also showed his performing skills in his recent Broadway show, American Utopia. Regarding the Oscars, Byrne won Best Original Score for The Last Emperor in 1987. Maybe this will get him Oscar number two?

Son Lux wrote the entire soundtrack for EEAO, including “This is a Life.” Son Lux is an experimental band from New York. They are a rock band with a lot of electronic influences. The band started with Ryan Lott in 2008, but Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang joined Lott in 2015. Regarding movie soundtracks, they previously scored The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. While formerly known amongst indie circles, writing music for EEAO helped bring this alternative band into the mainstream. Performing at the Oscars will help them even more.

This song will compete against “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which Rihanna will sing, “Applause” from Tell it Like a Woman, which Sofia Carson and Diane Warren will perform, and “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, which Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava will sing. The song will also compete against “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, which has not confirmed a performer but was originally sung by Lady Gaga, meaning she will most likely perform the song. The Oscars will surely be a night of some fantastic music.

EEAO has the distinction of being the only film nominated this year for Best Song and Best Original Score. This means that the music of this film is all around top-notch. The Best Song performance will prove that. “This is a Life” will be performed by three extraordinarily talented musicians, with Hsu having already shown her performing talents with this film. Even though her voice has not been a part of this song before, she will definitely knock it out of the park. At the Oscars, EEAO is absolutely going to have some great wins and great performances.
