Hong Chau Cast in Exciting Heist Film The Instigators
Hong Chau has had a fantastic year. With her first Oscar nomination, audiences are taking note of Chau. It looks like her luck in film will continue with Oscar winners Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.
There has recently been an announcement that Chau will star in The Instigators. She will be starring alongside Damon and Affleck, whose attachment to the project came this past December. Directed by Doug Liman, the film is about two thieves (Damon and Affleck) who decide to go on the run with their therapist (Chau) after a robbery goes wrong. The project will be released through Apple Films at a date yet to be determined.

Chau has been acting for almost two decades, however, she did not get her big break until 2017 with the film Downsizing, where she starred alongside Damon. After that, she succeeded in television by starring in Homecoming from 2018 to 2020 and Watchmen in 2019. Then, in 2022, she had big successes with The Menu and The Whale. The latter role, in which she portrayed a caring friend and nurse, Liz, earned her an Oscar nomination. These big breaks are leading to a bigger future.

The film is not Damon and Affleck’s first time being in a movie together. In fact, it is not even their first time being in a heist movie together. The two starred in Ocean’s Eleven trilogies, a film series about heists. Also, the two led the indie drama Gerry, where they both performed the title role.

Affleck won an Oscar in 2017 for portraying the lead in Manchester by the Sea and got a nomination in 2008 for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Moreover, Damon has been nominated for five Oscars, including one for producing, and won one for the screenplay of Good Will Hunting. He won alongside Affleck’s brother, Ben Affleck. One of the production companies behind The Instigators is Artists Equity, which Damon and Ben Affleck run. The company is working on the highly anticipated Nike film Air, which will star Damon and Ben Affleck. All of these factors show a lot of promise for The Instigators.

Not only does Chau have this project lined up, but she also has a lot she is working on for the future. For instance, she will be in Asteroid City, a new Wes Anderson film premiering this June. In addition, Chau will also be in the upcoming Yorgos Lanthimos anthological film And. Also, she will be in the television series The Night Agent, based on the book of the same name. The series will premiere on Netflix on March 23. The Instigators is an exciting project to add to her filmography, and its great cast makes for incredible potential.
