See Who Won Big at the 2023 Oscars
The 2023 Oscars took place in Hollywood, California, last night. See below who won awards at the 95th Academy Awards.
Unsurprising to most, Everything Everywhere All at Once swept the Oscars this year, winning seven awards. The film won Best Picture, both Actor and Actress in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Leading Role, Directing, Writing (Original Screenplay), and Editing.
Everything Everywhere All at Once became the third film in history to win three acting Oscars. “The Daniels” (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) became the second duo in Academy history to share three awards on Oscars night.
Jamie Lee Curtis won the honor of Actress in a Supporting Role in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Many people believe Stephanie Hsu was snubbed of this award because of their difference in screen time in the film.
I’m sorry but Stephanie Hsu’s portrayal of a gay daughter fucking BEGGING her mum to SEE her – to understand her authentic self – with this whole thing being a metaphor for suicide and reaching out for help, is a THOUSAND times better than anything Jamie Lee Curtis has ever done. https://t.co/oj3mfwv1hC

Another unexpected win for the night was Brendan Fraser’s win for Actor in a Leading Role in The Whale. Even though he won a SAG award prior to the event, Austin Butler was favored to win for his role in Elvis. The Whale was surprisingly one of only three movies with multiple Oscar winners this year. It’s two wins put it behind Everything Everywhere All at Once with seven and All Quiet on the Western Front with four.
“Lift Me Up” by Rihanna and “Hold My Hand” by Lady Gaga lost to “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, surprising due to the amount of influence the other two artists hold.
The Banshees of Inisherin did not win any of its nine nominations. Neither did Elvis with eight, The Fabelmans with seven, or Tár with six.
Ruth Carter, seen below, won the Costume Design Category for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, its wins stop there. Some say Angela Bassett was snubbed of the Actress in a Supporting Role award when it went to Curtis instead, especially because of the lack of Black representation in the best actress category. Viola Davis (The Woman King) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till) were nowhere to be seen in the Oscar nominations this year.
you’re telling me that corny ass Performance from Jaime lee curtis was better than this piece of Art Angela Bassett delivered?pic.twitter.com/lgykpGMKg7
