Barbie will be directed by Greta Gerwig, known for directing films like Little Women and Lady Bird. Margot Robbie is starring as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

Fans reported that Barbie‘s Instagram account was not only following the film’s 15 cast members, but also Dua Lipa. Rumors began to fester with fans speculating that the “Levitating” singer will be featured on Barbie‘s soundtrack. This event has also led people to believe Dua Lipa would also have an on-screen role in the film.

Later on, however, the Barbie Instagram account would unfollow the artist leaving fans to theorize even more. Neither Dua Lipa nor the makers of the Barbie film have made an official comment yet.

Although nothing has been confirmed, many believe Dua Lipa is not the right choice for the Barbie theme song. Instead, Nicki Minaj is being named frequently for the role by her fans who she calls “Barbz.”

In addition, the film already sparked controversy when Ryan Gosling was cast as Ken because many did not expect Gerwig to choose him.

The script delivered into Gosling’s decision to accept the role. Gosling commented in July 2022 in an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that the script was the “best script I’ve ever read.” His decision was finalized when he found a Ken doll “face-down in the mud next to a squished lemon.” He took a photo, sent it to Gerwig, and said “I shall be your Ken. For his story must be told.”

His photo as Ken last summer that went viral surprised him, as he thought “As though they ever thought about Ken for a second before this. They never thought about Ken…He’s an accessory and not even one of the cool ones.”

The film is set to release on July 21. Fans can watch the trailer down below.
