Lana Del Rey Releases New Single “The Grants”
In anticipation of her upcoming album Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard, Lana Del Rey has released a brand new single called “The Grants.”
Del Rey has released her third single from her upcoming album. “The Grants,” which is the first track off the album, is a five-minute piano ballad. She explores memory, family, and spirituality in the emotional track.
The song was written with film producer Mike Hermosa, according to Pitchfork. Also involved in the track is music producer Drew Erickson. In addition, the track features the vocals of Melodye Perry, Pattie Howard, and Shikena Jones. The three women are gospel singers that were featured in the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom.
They begin the track with a soulful melody. Within the intro, Melodye playfully corrects the other singers in a candid soundbite. In her interview with BBC Radio 1, Del Rey mentions that she wanted to include the soundbite because “there’s so much symbolism there.”
Her lyrics heavily feature references to her family. She reminisces on her grandmother and “sister’s first-born child” with gratitude. Combined with references to the afterlife, Del Rey centers on spirituality and the concept of heaven. “When you leave, all you take / is your memories,” she sings. “The Grants” is ultimately an ode to her family. Her father, who she is collaborating on his own album, even promoted her song in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Excitement over the album has only grown as the star steps back into the spotlight. After some big interviews and multiple photoshoots, the Ocean Boulevard era could be her biggest since Norman F***king Rockwell.
Del Rey also won a Billboard Women in Music Visionary Award for her work, and in her speech stated that “[she is] very, very happy to be a female singer, that is a wonderful feat.” She adds, “when [she] released [her] first album 14 years ago, the waters were not quite as warm.”
The singer was even featured on Rolling Stone’s cover for their UK issue, naming her the “greatest American songwriter of the 21st century.” With unending support for her, hopes are high for Ocean Boulevard, an album that is already revealing Del Rey’s more personal and empowering inner self.

The singer is also set to perform live for the first time in years. Del Rey announced that she would be headlining the Glastonbury Festival and the San Francisco Outside Lands Festival. Fans speculate that she could take Ocean Boulevards on tour, which would be the first time she officially toured with an album since 2019.
Fans can stream “The Grants” on Spotify and Apple Music. Ocean Boulevard is set to release on March 24 and is available for pre-order on Del Rey’s official website.
