Matarazzo recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about joining the cast of Sweeny Todd and his career. When asked about Stranger Things, Matarazzo reflected on how deeply many have resonated with it. He explained, “it’s something that’s so important to all of us and has just been essential to the growth that I’ve had.” Matarazzo also noted the length of the series, calling it the “defining aspect of the past 10 years of [his] life, practically the past decade.”
Matarazzo agreed with Fallon in his assertion that the series wrap would be “bittersweet.” The actor shared his excitement to “see how these characters are going to finally develop one last time, and how they’re going to finish their journeys.”
However, he also shared what he called a “deep fear” about the series ending. Matarazzo reflected on the ideal work environment that the show provided, as well as “pretty great job security.” The star then commented that he would need to return to freelance. The full interview is available to watch below.
Matarazzo has found success prior to and during his work on Stranger Things. The actor began his career on Broadway, in productions such as Les Misérables and Priscilla. Since the series began, Matarazzo has done voice work for The Angry Birds Movie 2 and starred in the 2022 comedy Honor Society.
Gaten Matarazzo is back on Broadway in Sweeney Todd? Cool! Didn’t know about him being in Dear Evan Hansen either. I’d love to see him do Godspell again now that he’s older. #FallonTonight
