Ed Sheeran Releases New Docuseries, The Sum of It All to Premiere on Disney+
Ed Sheeran announced his new four-part documentary series, The Sum Of It All, premiering on Disney+ this May.
On Monday, Disney+ and Ed Sheeran shared the news of their new project and its official trailer. News of a documentary project about Sheeran’s life and music initially surfaced back in October. Now, many months later, we have an official first look at what the series has in store.
The trailer begins upbeat, showcasing Sheeran’s journey to international fame and success, overcoming all odds. However, it ends with an emotional look into the artist’s personal life.
The pop star shared the trailer on Instagram where he got real about the creative process behind the series. In the caption, Sheeran wrote, “I’ve always been guarded of my personal life; the only documentary I’ve ever made has been one that focused on my songwriting. Disney approached me to make a four-part documentary on the making of my next album, Subtract. Initially, the documentary was just that, a documentary on the formation of an album.”
Sheeran then explained that the big changes in his life changed the content of his album and the docuseries. When describing the way his personal life impacted the series, he noted, “It became something completely different to what I thought it would be.”
Despite his status as a global pop star, Ed Sheeran has chosen to keep his personal life out of the spotlight. However, this series promises an intimate view of the artist’s life, which has never been seen before. Sheeran shared that although it may be uncomfortable for him to reveal this side of himself, he “wanted to provide context to the album as it touches on very personal things, that we all experience.”
The series premiere coincides with the release of Sheeran’s latest album, Subtract, on May 5. This is the musician’s fifth studio album, following the start of his most recent tour, which began in April 2022 and will conclude this September.
Fans of Ed Sheeran are already expressing their excitement for this series. Many people are also appreciating the genius of the series title, which references the mathematical symbols that Sheeran has used for his past five album titles.
