Tatcha’s New Silk Serum is the New Retinol Alternative
Tatcha just launched its brand new product, the Silk Serum, a retinol alternative for people with sensitive skin. The perfect solution for youthful, glowing skin with none of the pesky dryness that comes with retinol.
It’s no secret that Tatcha has a cult following. Their products consistently receive top ratings, making their hydrating products a must-have for all skin types. The brand is now blessing us all with its brand new Silk Serum, which is supposedly used for fighting aging, dullness, and uneven texture.
Retinol is an ingredient with massive benefits that include skin barrier renewal and a boost of collagen production (which starts to decline in your 30s). In addition to restoring the skin barrier, this ingredient fights signs of aging and repairs some of the side effects caused due to sun damage.
However, retinol isn’t always preferred, as it is notorious for making sensitive skin prone to irritation and dryness. Rose Sparacio, the vice president of product development at Tatcha, mentions that due to skin sensitivity, about “20 percent of the population cannot tolerate retinol-based products.” For this particular group (which includes pregnant women who cannot use this ingredient,) the “complications and side effects outweigh [its] benefits.”
Nevertheless, skincare brands keep impressing us with new and improved alternatives. Bakuchiol and rambutan are some new ingredients that many brands want to include in their retinol-alternative products. Tatcha recently joined the bandwagon with ingredients like upcycled cranberry extract and sea fennel. These ingredients, enriched with peptides and help promote collagen production for smoother, firmer skin.
Like many other Tatcha products, the Silk Serum will also include “a tiny symphony of superfoods, amino acids, and AHAs called Hadasei-3, a proprietary complex of twice-fermented rice, algae, and green tea.” Green tea aids in fighting against stressors such as UV radiation and pollution, while algae, a rich source of metabolites, combat oxidative stress, ultimately helping to fight skin aging.
To top it off, Tatcha uses silk, it’s signature ingredient, inspired by its Japanese roots. According to Sparacio, “Silk is a moisture-binding ingredient that helps smooth and plump the appearance of fine lines. Additionally, silk protein’s amino acid composition makes the ingredient uniquely biocompatible with skin, and its regenerative, second-skin properties have made it popular in the medical field.”
Unlike retinol serums, Silk Serum is a gentle, creamy, milky formula that easily seeps into the skin. The product can be used every day, in the morning and night (and is pregnancy-safe too.)So, if you’re on the hunt for a gentle version of retinol, look no further, Tatcha’s Silk Serum is the perfect solution for serene yet effective results.
