Jonathan Majors fans around the globe were shocked this past weekend when the Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumani star trended on social media for his arrest for abuse allegations stemming from a female acquaintance.

Trigger Warning: This article discusses incidents of alleged physical abuse.

Say it ain’t so. Majors has been enjoying a prominent career in TV and film, recently being cast in films like Devotion, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumani, and the anticipated Magazine Dreams, and is best known for the series Lovecraft Country.

The star recently made headlines for his very sensual Ebony magazine cover, which left fans and critics jaw-dropped in a sort of mass hysteria, even amongst professional journalists.

What We Know

It was to the surprise of everyone that Jonathan was accused of allegedly striking a female he was in the company of in a taxi en route from a Brooklyn bar. TMZ was the first to break the news stating, “Law enforcement sources tell us the actor was booked Saturday morning on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment. We’re told cops responded to a call for service around 11 A.M. ET near the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.”

The alleged victim is a female, and TMZ shared that a source close to the police stated that “Majors had gotten into a dispute with her and proceeded to attack her.” Their relationship has not been confirmed at this point.

TMZ reported that a source stated that “the girlfriend saw another woman texting Majors, and she confronted him — trying to sneak a peek at his phone. We’re told the alleged victim/GF claims this got Majors mad and that he allegedly grabbed her hand and allegedly slapped her.”

TMZ sources went on to state that the alleged victim “had visible injuries, which included a supposed laceration behind her ear, and that she had redness and marks on her face. The female was taken to an area hospital and was in stable condition.” Majors was taken to jail in handcuffs on the scene, with police deeming that there was enough evidence for probable cause. On Saturday evening, Majors was released from police custody without bail.

Since the incident, there have been updates in which Majors’ attorney issued a public statement to NPR Tuesday, with Majors’ defense attorney, Priya Chaudhry, claiming that “the woman has taken back her allegations in written statements and that Majors called 911 himself over concerns for her mental health.”

Chaudhry also stated the following day that there was evidence that would clear him, including video from the vehicle and witness statements.

“To set the record straight: As confirmed by one of the woman’s own written statements disavowing her allegations, it is Mr. Majors who called 911 due to concern for her mental health,” Chaudry’s statement read.

Chaudhry told TMZ that “Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently.”

Majors was booked and charged on Sunday on charges of assault and harassment despite his attorney stating he was innocent and professing to have on hand vindicating statements, documents, and video evidence.

What Fans Are Saying

Social media was quick to jump on the pile as soon as the news broke about Majors. Some began to vilify Majors immediately as though he was already proven guilty in a court of law. Among those dropping Majors was the US Army, which pulled a new advertising campaign that had just launched with two ads featuring Majors. Its Enterprise Marketing Office stated that it was “deeply concerned by the allegations” and added that while the actor is “innocent until proven guilty, prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation” is complete.

Fans were quick to point out that many female victims are slow to be believed, such as Megan the Stallion literally showing the bullet holes in her foot from being shot at leaving a Kylie Jenner party by rapper Tory Lanez who was found guilty on all charges.
