Netflix Orders a New Stranger Things Animated Series
A new animated series based on the Netflix hit Stranger Things, is officially in the works along with several other spin-off projects.
Information about the new series is being kept under wraps for now, however, the little information that has been shared has been promising. The creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have described their inspiration behind the new series as reminiscent of their favorite childhood cartoons.
The new series, which remains untitled for now, will be produced by Eric Robles’ animation house, Flying Bark. The Duffer brothers will serve as executive producers, along with two of their Stranger Things collaborators, Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.
In a statement on their latest endeavor, the brothers shared, “We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling.” Discussing the development process, the two continued, “We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with– the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”
Upon first airing on Netflix in 2016, Stranger Things became an instant worldwide hit for its suspenseful, action-packed, and heartfelt story. Now, the series’ fifth and final season is in the works. Although this chapter of Stranger Things is closing, this only marks the beginning of the Duffer brothers’ creative projects within their beloved sci-fi universe, The Upside Down.
Recently, the two announced a stage event in London inspired by the series titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow. In addition, the two also have another untitled live-action spin-off they are actively working on.
According to Netflix, the fourth season of Stranger Things was the most-watched English language series following its release. In addition to its overwhelming viewership, the series has received countless prestigious award nominations over the years. In fact, the ensemble won a SAG award for their performance in 2017 and several People’s Choice Awards in 2019 and 2022.
Given the series’ massive fan base, people are already expressing their excitement for this new addition to the franchise.
