Aziz Ansari Will Make His Directorial Debut With Good Fortune
Aziz Ansari has seen great success in the television world. His talents will soon go to the film world with his upcoming movie, Good Fortune.
Ansari will be making his film directorial debut as well as write, and star in Good Fortune. He will be starring alongside fan-favorite actors Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves. Plot details are currently under wraps, however, filming for the project will start next month in Los Angeles. Production company Lionsgate is behind this project and will launch sales on the film next month in Cannes. There has also yet to be an announcement of a possible release date or even season. The secrecy is building up for a lot of intrigue.

Lionsgate is excited about this upcoming film. Joe Drake, head of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, exclaimed, “We have indeed found good fortune with this film. We love the script and believe strongly in Aziz as both a performer and a director. And when you add in Seth and Keanu — two incredible world-class talents — toplining alongside Aziz, this has the potential to be a very special film for us. We moved quickly to land this project once it was available.”
Ansari has had a lot of achievements in television. He got his break with the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation as the character Tom Haverford. In addition, he created the comedy series, Master of None, earning him two Emmys. Ansari took a break from the industry for a few years after allegations of sexual misconduct. After lying low, he came back to get back to work. His allegations have been a bit of a sticky area, but Ansari is trying to move past that. His most recent work was his stand-up special Aziz Ansari: Nightclub Comedian in early 2022. Now, audiences will see how his resume translates to film.

Rogen has decades of experience in the acting industry. From his start in Freaks and Geeks, Rogen has been in a lot of projects these past couple of years that have had great acclaim. In late 2022, Rogen starred in the Oscar-nominated film The Fabelmans. On a more comedic note, he was also recently in The Super Mario Bros. Movie as Donkey Kong. Along with Good Fortune, later this year Rogen will be seen in Dumb Money, the story about the Gamestop short squeeze. In addition, Rogen is working on the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem as Bebop, and he will reprise his role as Mantis in Kung Fu Panda 4.
Over the years, Reeves has become an actor to watch. His forte is usually action films, with his roles in The Matrix and John Wick franchises, both of which had new movies within the past few years. However, he has demonstrated his comedy chops in the Bill & Ted franchise, which has also had a recent film. When it comes to non-franchises, Reeves was recently in DC League of Super-Pets and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Despite this film being his directorial debut, Good Fortune is not the first film that Ansari has attempted to direct. He was originally working on a dramedy, Being Mortal, based on the book of the same name. It would have starred Ansari, along with Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Bill Murray. However, the film’s production stopped when Murray faced accusations of sexual harassment on the film’s set. Those accusations led Searchlight Pictures to step away as producers, and the film was in months of limbo. Finally, this February, the project officially decided not to move forward.
While Good Fortune is in its early stages, this project is likely to see its completion and will hopefully hit theaters, only time and future filming will tell.
