The image for the album cover serves as a direct visualization of its title, which refers to a legal order that prohibits individuals from making public statements about a case. The photo depicts the artist from the shoulders up with a plastic bag placed over her head.

In her own words, Kesha described what this album means to her in a recent piece for Nylon. In her album manifesto, the star shared the impact the pandemic had on her creativity and mental health. She then detailed a warm summer night when she “talked to God,” promptly sending her on the empowering journey of self-discovery that this album is representative of.
Kesha continued to describe the intention behind Gag Order, explaining, “I wanted to make an album that sounds the way my head feels. Dipping in and out of depression, gratitude, rage, and hope. Always moving.”
The star also shared that one of her upcoming singles, “Eat The Acid,” was the first song she wrote for Gag Order and served as a catalyst for the entire album. Kesha concluded her intimate manifesto by stating, “This album has been handcrafted with so much transparency and care, and I hope it connects with those who need it.”
“Eat The Acid” and “Fine Line” will be released this Friday, with the full album, Gag Order, following soon after on May 19.
