After making a surprise appearance at CinemaCon, Rihanna announced that she would star, write and record original songs and produce the upcoming project. The beauty mogul has proven that she can do it all. She states, “I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester and play a little blue bada**.”

Rihanna is expecting her second child with her partner, A$AP Rocky. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, last May. The stylish couple recently graced the cover of British Vogue.

Rihanna teased fans with what can be expected of the movie. She reveals, “I can’t wait for you guys to see how [Smurfette has] been reimagined. The entire movie is going to be so fun. It’s so thrilling.”

Brian Robbins, President and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, and Ramsey Naito, President of Animation for Paramount and Nickelodeon, praised Rihanna. The duo stated, “On behalf of our studio and our creative partners, we couldn’t be more excited to have found our Smurfette in one of the most beloved stars in the world. With Rihanna’s singular creative appeal and musical talents, there is an enormous opportunity to elevate the cultural touchstone of The Smurfs universe in a way that’s never been done before.”

The Smurfs film will not be Rihanna’s first time doing animated roles. She lent her voice to the DreamWorks animated feature, Home, in 2015. Her other film credits include Guava Island, Ocean’s 8, Battleship, This Is the End, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

We are very excited to see Rihanna enter The Smurfs universe. The film is slated for a February 14, 2025 release.
