The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Debuts as a Massive Success
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is already a massive success, and it hasn’t even officially been released yet.
It debuted with a score of 96 on Metacritic and is the #1 rated game of the year. Critics have claimed, “Tears of the Kingdom is easily one of the best games on the Switch and a rare recipient of a perfect five-star rating and an Editors’ Choice award.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom follows The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the 2017 Game of the Year winner. This game was hailed for its refreshing new take on the open-world concept of gaming by offering players limitless freedoms and possibilities. Nintendo coined the term “open-air” to describe this precedent.
Tears of the Kingdom was inspired by the creativity of the players from its previous game. The new gameplay features transform this past creativity to become accessible for even the most casual gamers, as gamers no longer need to push the limits of the game.
This game is twice the size of Breath of the Wild, adding two new layers for exploration. You can now explore floating islands in the sky and deep ravines in the “underground” on top of the busy main surface. Link has some brand new abilities this time around including the Ascend, Fuse, Recall, and Ultrahand powers from his magic blue arm to help him build, ascend into the sky, solve puzzles, and much more.
“Princess Zelda is missing, and the search for her includes following legends and rumors of other mysterious temples. There are strange statues in the underground, cryptic geoglyphs across the surface that can only be seen from the air, and more things to look into that feel like they tie in with the main plot,” PC Mag explained.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be officially released May 12 for Nintendo Switch.
