Watch Lana Del Rey Stun in Her Haunting New Music Video
Lana Del Rey channels old Hollywood glamour in her haunting new music video for “Candy Necklace” featuring Grammy-winning artist, Jon Batiste.
On Wednesday, the “Born To Die” singer released the latest addition to her iconic catalog of music videos, the first from her latest album.
The video is over ten minutes long, nearly double the length of the original track. The video opens with black and white behind-the-scenes shots of the singer on the set. The behind-the-scenes clips are dispersed throughout the video, as it cuts back and forth. The two types of clips create a stark difference in the visuals throughout the video, moving from raw, unedited shots to cinematic, glamorous ones in a matter of seconds.
Four minutes into the video, a clip of Del Rey explaining the meaning of the behind-the-scenes footage is included to contextualize her creative vision. In the short clip, the singer states, “Why it was all supposed to be behind the scenes was because all these women who like changed their name, changed their hair like me and stuff, it’s like they all fell into these different snake holes, so the whole point is like how do you learn from that?”
As the video ends, the picture turns from black and white to color, and Del Rey finally reveals a smile as she celebrates a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fans in the comments commended Del Rey’s artistry and the message she was able to convey through the music video. One comment reads, “She expresses art and music in a way that nowadays is hard to find,” while another states, “This is my favorite music video she’s ever done.”
