Tom Holland Will Be Out of the Acting Scene for a Year
After shooting the psychological thriller television series The Crowded Room, Tom Holland revealed that he would take a much-needed, year-long break from acting.
Holland told CNN that shooting the mental health-related thriller was “a tough time.” According to CNN, taking on this demanding and emotionally tasking role broke him. Holland was also one of the executive producers for The Crowded Room.
The Crowded Room, according to the series synopsis, is based on Daniel Keyes’ novel The Minds of Billy Milligan, set in 1979 when a young man is arrested for a shocking crime. The series premieres Friday, June 9, and can be streamed on Apple TV+. Holland posted the premiere’s cover photo on his Instagram.
Following the shooting for the series, Holland experienced himself unable to escape his character, Danny Sullivan. Sullivan’s character is based on Billy Milligan from Keyes’ novel. While filming, he experienced moments where he knew he needed a break.
According to IGN, Holland had to explore “certain emotions that I had certainly never experienced before.”

He initially took one week off, staying in Mexico and out of the scene. Following this short-lived break, Holland knew he needed more time. To focus on his mental health during this year-long break, he has been traveling, spending time with his friends and family, and participating in different hobbies, such as golfing and gardening.
His upcoming projects, such as Spider-Man 4, will not be in production for some time, allowing Holland to take as much time as necessary for his mental health.
