The Little Mermaid Surpasses $500 Million at Worldwide Box Office

Disney’s The Little Mermaid has broken records. The film made over $500 million worldwide, surpassing the original film’s box office numbers.

Disney’s live-action of the beloved classic The Little Mermaid soars to new heights a month after its initial release. The film has now transcended the whopping $500 million benchmark at the worldwide box office. Disney’s 1989 film of the same title earned $211 million according to Box Office Mojo’s website. After accounting for today’s inflation, that brings the original’s earnings up to just above $500 million. The live-action adaptation has recently exceeded these numbers.

The new adaptation of The Little Mermaid did remarkably well in its initial box office. Variety reported that the production earned a remarkable $38 million domestically on its opening day.

The film has earned the love of fans across the globe, many of whom are happy to finally see themselves represented in the media. Viewers took to social media to praise Halle Bailey‘s heartwarming performance and to express their admiration for the representation that the film provides.

Bailey’s knockout performance, the nostalgia of the original film, and the noteworthy soundtrack by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman were all crucial to the film’s major success.
