Netflix’s Fourth Season of Sex Education Will Be Its Last
Netflix’s series Sex Education is set to air its fourth and final season September 21, leaving fans heartbroken with the farewell to Moordale Secondary School.
The hit series follows the lives of teens and adults as they navigate through a variety of personal challenges that often relate to sexual intimacy. Netflix officially announced on Wednesday, July 5 that the series would be coming to an end. The company also released a teaser trailer for the fourth season, which included fan favorites Asa Butterfield, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey. However, several cast members, including Simone Ashley and Tanya Reynolds, will not be returning for the series’ final season.
Series creator Laurie Nunn wrote a letter to fans further explaining why the series is coming to an end. “Writing this feels bittersweet, as we’ve decided the fourth season will also be the final installment of our show,” Nunn mentioned in a letter posted to the series’ Instagram account. The creator further commented on how she hoped the series made people “feel a little less alone” and that it “was the right time” for the series to end.
The upcoming season will feature a handful of new cast members, including Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy and Doctor Who star Thaddea Graham. Other new additions include Jodie Turner-Smith, Lisa McGrillis, Marie Reuther, Eshaan Akbar, Felix Mufti, Anthony Lexa, Alexandra James, Reda Elazouar, Bella Maclean, and Imani Yashua.
Although fans are sad this will be Sex Education’s last season, the series has left the audience with important lessons surrounding relationships, sexuality, and development. According to Nunn’s farewell letter, writers were able to draw on aspects from their own teenage years such as “painful awkwardness, first crushes and big, big feelings.”
