For his first interview in six years, Zayn Malik appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast released Wednesday, July 12.

In an interview clip released on the Call Her Daddy social media pages, Malik revealed to host Alex Cooper why he is making his return with this podcast after being out of the public eye for so long.

“I feel like we were so overexposed in the band,” he stated. “That’s why I took the time that I have to not even necessarily do interviews.”

Malik also credited his 2-year-old daughter who he had with Gigi Hadid as another reason for doing the interview.

“Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her,” he stated. “That’s why I’m even doing this interview. I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this, and I want her to be able to look at me and be like, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this.’”

The podcast announcement came only one day after Malik shared that his new single, “Love Like This,” will be released on July 21. Before this announcement, he wiped his Instagram and only shared media teasing the announcement.

This will be his first solo release since his 2021 album Nobody Is Listening and later collaborations with Ingrid Michaelson on “To Begin Again” and a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Angel.”

Fans all over social media have been sharing their excitement for the podcast appearance and his upcoming single, with many gushing about how he speaks about his daughter.
