P!nk and Brandi Carlile Deliver Powerful Cover of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’
P!nk and Brandi Carlile delivered an emotional cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The song written by the late singer, Prince, became a staple song sung by Sinéad O’Connor.
After the shocking news of O’Connor’s passing became known worldwide, many fans and Hollywood personnel took social media by storm honoring the Irish musician.
When her second cup was taking on the night air, she rose, embraced us all and strode away into the fog-dimmed streetlights.

We sat there the four of us and variously expressed the same thing. What an amazing woman.
Peace be with your courageous heart Sinéad.
Sinead was always ahead of her time. #NothingCompares is a POWERFUL doc on how a music icon survived abuse + in turn spoke up on the abuse of women, children, race, war + politics + holds a magnifying glass on the world + the work still needed to be done. Her voice equals bravery pic.twitter.com/FYhYjs9Wjs

P!nk, who is currently on her Summer Carnival tour, stopped the neon-hued party and expressed her sadness over losing one of the world’s most powerful artists.
“When I was a little girl, my mom grew up in Atlantic City and I used to go down to the Ocean City Boardwalk with my ten dollars and I would make a demo tape… I would make a little cassette tape and imagine it was my demo for the record company,” said P!nk, “And it would always be either ‘Greatest Love of All’ by Whitney Houston or ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ by Sinéad O’Connor.”
She continued, “So in honor of Sinéad, and in honor of my very, very talented friend Brandi Carlile, I asked her if she would come out here and sing this song with me.”
She was on my repeat playlist growing up. Fame was never her agenda + she refused to be silenced. Sinead spoke on the atrocities in the church + racism at the Grammys and the world hated her for it. Underneath it all, was one of the most beautiful voices + artists of our time. pic.twitter.com/r45K6aUsBF

O’Connor released her rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U” in 1990. The song “stayed on top for four weeks, tied with ‘Vision of Love’ and Stevie B’s ‘Because I Love You (The Postman Song)’ for the longest-running No. 1 of the year, before being replaced by Madonna’s ‘Vogue.'”
In addition to her chart-topping success, the track also made history at the MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first video from a female artist to win Video of the Year.
Following P!nk and Carlile’s mesmerizing duet, the “So What” singer stated, “You never know what people are going through. It’s not that hard to give people a smile… we’re all learning that lesson together now.”
O’Connor was the definition of a once-in-a-generation type of artist. Her musical legacy will live on forever. Her documentary, Nothing Compares, is available to watch on Hulu.
