Euphoria star, Sydney Sweeney, is confirmed to take on the role of Julia Carpenter (AKA Spider-Woman) in the upcoming Marvel film, Madame Web.

Sweeney, most well-known for her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria, has been introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans have already expressed their excitement after taking on the role of Carpenter.

Fans believe the actress “deserves the role” and are excited about what she’ll bring to the character.

They are also confident that Sweeney will be respectful of the character and the comic book series. In an interview with The Direct, the actress discussed how upon hearing the news of landing the role, she immediately went to the comic book store and “bought every comic that mentioned [her] character.”

Fans appreciated this effort of the Euphoria star and have high hopes for the upcoming film because of her dedication.

Carpenter’s story is a bumpy road. According to Marvel, the superhero is a single mother who became involved in superhero fighting thanks to her long-time friend Valerie Cooper, a federal agent. Carpenter is known by her other aliases, Spider-Woman, Arachne, and the second Madame Web.

The reunion with her friend came with benefits that the crime-fighting hero needed. Carpenter was promised lucrative employment but was manipulated by her Cooper to undergo a series of experimental treatments. Those treatments included injections of a formula incorporating rare Amazon jungle plants and various types of spider venom, giving Carpenter superhuman powers. After gaining her superhero abilities, she became frequently absent in her daughter’s life.

Her ex-husband Larry, sued for custody of Rachel and won. The estranged pair had battled for custody of their daughter prior to Carpenter’s powers due to Larry cheating on her.

Sweeney sounded more than ecstatic when learning that she booked the role of the Marvel heroine.

As she recalled in an interview with Variety, “I was freaking out, of course.”

With her excitement for the starring role in Madame Web, she expressed how the film will “differ” from other superhero films in the Marvel franchise.

“I think it’s different from what people expect a superhero movie to be,” Sweeney hinted.

With Sweeney hitting the books to better her understanding of the complex Carpenter character, fans can only wonder if Madame Web will be the game changer that the Marvel franchise needs. The film is slated for a February 16 release.
