Taylor Swift announced her newest re-recording will be her 2014 album 1989. The pop star also released the cover for the upcoming album.

Swift’s last performance of her first U.S. leg of the “Eras Tour” was last night in Los Angeles, California. She surprised fans with the official announcement of her upcoming re-recording, 1989 (Taylor’s Version). First released in 2014, the album, named after her birth year, was a mega-hit. It was a huge turning point for Swift’s career, with a complete pop sound inspired by her move to New York City.

The star just released Speak Now (Taylor's Version) on July 7, but she's been hinting at the release of 1989 (Taylor's Version) for some time now. During her last performance last night, she donned a blue dress for both her Speak Now and Folklore sets.

The star just released Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) on July 7, but she’s been hinting at the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) for some time now. During her last performance last night, she donned a blue dress for both her Speak Now and Folklore sets.

It’s safe to assume that blue is the official color of 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The light-up bracelets fans are given before the show have been lighting up blue for every show in the last couple of days. Taylor loves her Easter Eggs.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) will release exactly 9 years after the original on October 27. The re-recording will include 5 “From the Vault” tracks, never before released songs that didn’t make the cut of the original. In the cover art, fans have noticed that this is the first of Taylor’s albums in which she is smiling on the cover.

Fans are theorizing that this cover art is a nod to the original recording. In an alternative cover for 1989, Swift is seen smiling in the signature polaroid picture. She chose a different version however, wanting to keep the “mystery” of the album cover.

The 1989 (Taylor’s Version) vinyl is now available for pre-order as well as a CD, cassette, and 4 special edition deluxe CDs in 4 different colors, available for a limited time. Swift is already breaking records, with 400,000 copies pre-ordered in the first 12 hours.

You can pre-order the upcoming album on her website here.
