Bomb Threat Delays Lil Nas X’s New Documentary Premiere
Lil Nas X’s documentary, Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, was delayed by 20 minutes due to a bomb threat that was called in by an alleged homophobic individual.
Lil Nas X is a very popular and successful rapper who is Black and a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. His most well-known songs include “Old Town Road” and “Industry Baby (feat. Jack Harlow).” Recently, Lil Nas X came out with his own documentary titled Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero.

Ahead of the bomb threats on premiere night, Lil Nas X told Variety that his goal for the documentary was to show younger generations, as well as current ones, that Black queer artists “really take the world to the next level.”
“I know in my lifetime, while I’m here, I’m going to do my best to make the ceiling unreachable to where we can go as Black queer people,” Lil Nas X stated. “And I mean unreachable as, like, it can go above and beyond.”

On September 9, Lil Nas X was scheduled to start his documentary premiere at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival). The showing was set to begin at 10 p.m. However, there was a caller to the venue, which posed a threat to Lil Nas X. He was then told to hold and wait as the danger passed. Variety claims that “the threat specifically targeted the rapper for being a Black queer artist, one source added.”

TIFF security did a 20-minute sweep of the entire venue. When it was deemed safe, Nas continued his night as planned. The entire escapade ended up delaying the screening by about 30 minutes as the viewing began at 10:30 p.m. rather than 10 p.m.
Variety also mentions, “A representative for the Toronto Police Service replied Sunday regarding their involvement in the incident. “Yesterday, at the TIFF, a passerby uttered a threat towards private security,” a spokesperson said.”
Because of this, the investigators scanned and searched the venue. However, the Toronto police involved speculated that this threat was just a general threat and was not targeting anyone in particular.
