“We are proud to recognize the hard work and innovation that goes into making a film that is both a blockbuster and artistically exceptional,” stated Helen Hoehne, Golden Globes president.

“The new cinematic and box office achievement award is more than just rewarding the year’s top-earning and most viewed motion pictures,” stated Tim Gray, Golden Globes executive vice president. “These films have typically not been recognized among industry awards, but they should be.”

The award for cinematic and box office achievement will acknowledge the films of the year that have received critical acclaim, made over $150 million at the box office, and garnered substantial viewership worldwide while also demonstrating cinematic excellence. In this category, a total of eight nominees will be selected.

The second new category, alternatively referred to as the “Best Television Stand-Up Comedian” award, aims to recognize outstanding stand-up comedy performances on television, whether by an individual comedian or as part of a comedy group or ensemble. In this category, a total of six nominees will be announced.

“The Golden Globes has a rich history of supporting and celebrating the work of comedians, and we’re thrilled to honor their brilliance alongside outstanding motion picture and television performances of the year,” stated Hoehne.

According to People magazine, Barbie is the highest-grossing film at the box office after earning $626 million dollars, followed by The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Oppenheimer and The Little Mermaid.

The submission portal for motion picture and television entries for the Golden Globes will become accessible starting from October 2. The official announcement of nominations is scheduled for Monday, December 11 and winners will be announced live on January 7.
