New Trailer Drops for The Color Purple Movie Musical
A new trailer from Warner Bros. has been released for the upcoming movie, The Color Purple, based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer-winning book.
On Tuesday, Warner Bros. debuted the highly anticipated and upcoming movie, highlighting the powerful bond shared amongst a group of four women. Biltz Bazawule directs the film alongside big-name producers in Hollywood. These producing legends are Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, and Quincy Jones.

This new version of The Color Purple includes a star-studded cast led by American R&B singer Fantasia Barrino as leading woman, Celie Harris-Johnson. According to Billboard, Barrino is no stranger to this role as she has portrayed Celie on Broadway and on the musical’s national tour.
According to ET Online, Barrino was considered by producers but had a tough decision on whether she would accept the role in the new adaptation of the film.
“‘I can’t go back, I can’t do that again, Scott,” Fantasia recalls telling Sanders. “And he says, ‘Listen, I know where you are in your life right now. I see that you’re married. I’m so proud of you, and I’m so happy. But there’s no one else that can do this. We need you to do this,” he stated.

To take on such an intense and great story, you need a cast to match the caliber of the tale. Lucky for us, the cast of The Color Purple contains some of the best talent currently known in entertainment.
This immaculate list includes names familiar on screen such as Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, Colman Domingo as Mister, and Corey Hawkins as Harpo. As well as others who have more recently been seen on screen like Halle Bailey as Young Nettie, Ciara as Adult Nettie, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi as Young Celie, and Jon Batiste as Grady, along with many other talented artists.
This captivating story is set in the early 1900s and tells the story of Celie, a Black woman living in Georgia with her abusive father and husband. As she struggles to break free from this life, she ends up taking back her power while forming a sisterhood with three other women. The women have created this strong bond through their understanding of each other’s hardships.
