Timothée Chalamet revealed in an interview with GQ that Austin Butlers’ portrayal of Elvis inspired him for his role as Bob Dylan in the upcoming film.

The Wonka actor will portray Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, a biopic of the legendary musician. The actor has two blockbuster films forthcoming in the next six months: Wonka and Dune: Part Two.

In preparation for his role, Chalamet told GQ that he took notes out of Austin Butler’s playbook. “You asked me what I’ve been doing in LA this year? I’ve basically been working with [Butler’s] entire Elvis team for my Dylan prep,” Chalamet stated. “There’s a wonderful dialect coach named Tim Monich. Vocal coach named Eric Vetro. Movement coach named Polly Bennett. I just saw the way he committed to it all, and realized I needed to step it up.”

Moreover, Chalamet previously worked with Eric Vetro on his upcoming film Wonka. “He does everything with such a playful air, but there’s always that core of real seriousness where he is gonna nail it,” Vetro commended the 27-year-old actor.

Additionally, Chalamet praised the Elvis actor. “He takes the work incredibly seriously. And I feel like I hadn’t seen that among someone my age,” he stated, calling Butler a “tremendously affable, wonderful man.”

While preparing for his role, Chalamet did not meet Dylan. “I didn’t want to three years ago, because I just didn’t want to for superstitious reasons,” he expressed. “Now I would love to.”

In the highly anticipated biopic, Chalamet will share the screen with Benedict Cumberbatch, who portrays the role of Pete Seeger, an iconic American folk singer. Moreover, Dylan and Seeger shared a deep connection, as Seeger served as both a mentor and a source of inspiration to Dylan.

The release date for A Complete Unknown hasn’t been announced yet, but it is expected to hit theaters next year.
