Selena Gomez Under Attack for Comments on the Israel-Palestine War
Selena Gomez received significant backlash after she shared her comments on the ongoing Israel-Palestine War, in an Instagram story.
In a statement she shared on Instagram stories, the actress expressed wanting to change the world, “but a post won’t,” given her platform of 430 million followers on Instagram.
Gomez is one of many celebrities to break her silence on the war. Moreover, she mentioned taking a break from social media after witnessing horrific images and devastation affecting people in the Middle East.
“I’ve been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that’s going on in the world,” she revealed. “People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific.”

“I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can't stand by innocent people getting hurt. That's what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won't.” pic.twitter.com/vH8rojpVx9
Since the attack in Gaza, Israeli forces have killed 3,457 Palestinian children. Gomez stressed all people should be protected, especially innocent children. According to DCI-Palestine, an estimated 1,050 Palestinian children are missing under the rubble, indicating the death toll is higher.
“We need to protect ALL people, especially children, and stop the violence for good,” Gomez stated. “I’m sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag. I just can’t stand by innocent people getting hurt. That’s what makes me sick.”
Furthermore, the internet viewed Gomez’s statements as “ignorant,” calling out the actress for victimizing herself and alluding to the victim in this situation that do not pertain to her. One user on X expressed their disappointment.
