Instagram Tests New Feature To Turn Off Read Receipts
Instagram is currently testing a feature that enables users to toggle off read receipts in their direct messages. This means the “seen” label won’t be displayed, offering a bit more privacy to users.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Instagram head Adam Mosseri made the announcement on their Instagram Broadcast Channels about the ongoing testing of this new feature. Mosseri even shared a snapshot showcasing the toggle button and a glimpse of how it would appear after a user sends a message.

According to Daily Mail, Mosseri shared messages discussing the latest feature coming to the user-friendly platform and highlighted the public demand for this update.
“You asked, we listened, ” he continued. “We heard your feedback and have started testing a new feature that lets you turn read receipts off in your DMs.” He added, “Soon, people will be able to choose when to let others see when they’ve read their messages.”
Moreover, with read receipts turned off, even if you’ve read another user’s DM, they won’t know when you’ve seen their message.
Zuckerburg mentioned, “If you’re someone who leaves people on read your day has come. We’re testing the ability to turn off read receipts on Instagram DMs.”
It’s expected that the popular app maintains its flexibility, letting users decide what they want their audience to see. In May 2021, Instagram granted users the ability to hide the likes count on all posts or choose specific ones to keep things customizable.
In the ever-evolving world of social media, Instagram continues to empower its users with customizable features, from hiding likes to the latest testing of read receipt toggles, ensuring a tailored and private experience for all.
