Set to release exclusively in theaters in May 2024, Chris Pratt voices the feisty feline working alongside Samuel L. Jackson. The film’s cast of voices also includes Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, and Bowen Young.
The trailer reveals the backstory of how Garfield adopted his owner, John.
Before he dives into a tray of lasagna, he warns the audience, “I apologize in advance. The eating you’re about to see will not be pretty. And if you have young children, this would be a good time for them to leave the room.”
The plot also shows an unexpected twist: a reunion with his long-lost father, Vic, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson.
“Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered life into joining Vic in a hilarious, high-stakes heist,” wrote First Showing.
Mark Dindal, known for his work in Chicken Little and The Emperor‘s New Groove, directed the film. Dindal worked from a script by David Reynolds, who has written for Finding Nemo.
“The film is produced by Columbia Pictures and financed by Alcon Entertainment, which owns the rights to the ‘Garfield’ comic series and brand. Sony Pictures will distribute ‘Garfield’ globally, excluding China,” according to Variety.
Pratt was confirmed to voice the lasagna-loving cat back in November 2021. The actor uploaded on Instagram, “Well this Monday doesn’t suck…”
The Garfield Movie will hit theaters on May 24, 2024. Fans can watch the trailer below.
