Tyler Perry Becomes Emotional on The View
During a recent interview on The View, Tyler Perry became emotional when he spoke about his connection with his late mother, Willie Maxine Perry.
Tyler Perry, the multi-talented 54-year-old, appeared on the daytime show to talk about his latest documentary, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story. He also expressed how the upcoming film brings attention to his bond with his mother, who passed away in 2009 at the peak of his career.

According to People Magazine, “At the beginning of the interview, Perry explained the title of the film emerged after the documentarians asked, ‘Who do you think you are? Are you a writer, a producer, a director?’”
He replied, “I’m Maxine’s baby. I am my mother’s son… That’s what’s most important to me. When I’m walking around or whatever I’m doing, I’m carrying her in my spirits.”
The View co-host, Sara Haines, shared how moved she was after learning about Perry’s mother. “When I met Maxine through all of it. I didn’t know her. But it shows just how much you endured as a child.”
As Haines spoke, Perry quietly interrupted to express his shock at her statement. “Wait a minute. That took me. You met my mother through that. Wow.”
He then continued, “To say that you met her through that, that takes me somewhere because, you know, this woman endured so much pain and she didn’t have some legacy, but she had me.”
“To say I was able to introduce her to you, you got me there, man,” he tearfully admitted. “I’m sorry. Lord have mercy. Thank you for that. I appreciate that very much.” With an attempt made by Haines to continue the discussion, it was clear Perry needed a moment to process everything.
He then continued, “I just imagine a woman who lived her entire life with so much pain and she was always worried about everybody else.”
“I watched her get sick. I watched her get cancer. Her intention was, ‘Are you happy? Are you okay?’ She never put herself on the list, she never thought she was important or that anybody would care.”
“So to say this documentary that they did about my life introduces her to the world, that moves me because she was that special to me,” Perry explained.
The Madea star then pushed onward, asking, “I know there are other questions so please ask me something else.”
Tyler Perry’s documentary about his mother, Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story, premieres on Prime Video on November 17.
