Balenciaga Taps Nicole Kidman as New Brand Ambassador
Oscar-winning actress, Nicole Kidman became the newest ambassador for Balenciaga. Kidman stated she is “thrilled” to work with the renowned fashion house.
“Balenciaga has been with me through some of the most memorable events in my life, from my wedding to the Oscars red carpet,” Kidman commented in a press release. She also expressed her excitement to “create more memories together.”
“Balenciaga has been with me through some of the most memorable events in my life, from my wedding to the Oscars red carpet,” the actress added in Balenciaga’s press release.
Moreover, the Big Little Lies star and now Balenciaga ambassador attended her first Balenciaga runway show as an ambassador on Saturday.
Kidman wore an all-black Balenciaga look as she watched the brand’s Fall 2024 runway collection in Los Angeles. The actress looked amazing in a sharp off-the-shoulder coat, sleek gloves, sunglasses, and pointed-toe pumps.
Furthermore, Kidman is now part of the Balenciaga family. She joined an already star-studded group of ambassadors that includes Isabelle Huppert, PP Krit Amnuaydechkorn, and Michelle Yeoh.
Michelle Yeoh, announced her ambassadorship in an Instagram post last month. “I am thrilled to join @balenciaga as their brand ambassador,” the Everything Everywhere All at Once star stated.
In another post, Yeoh added, “Wearing Balenciaga makes me value the artistry and craftsmanship behind every piece. The brand embodies a sense of originality and relevance while always remaining true to its heritage as a couture atelier. It is an honor to partner with @balenciaga.”
Nicole Kidman and Michelle Yeoh have both joined forces with Balenciaga, marking a new chapter for the fashion house as it looks to regain its following after a controversial holiday campaign in 2022.
The first campaign that ignited controversy was Gabriele Galimberti’s, “Balenciaga Gift Shop,” featuring images of children holding handbags that resembled teddy bears clad in leather harnesses and spiked collars.
Additionally, the second campaign was a Garde-Robe campaign that featured an image with a page from a Supreme Court ruling of United States v. Williams, which prohibited the promotion of child pornography and affirmed its exclusion from the protection of free speech.
Moreover, within a week of their launch, the controversial campaigns triggered a social media firestorm, with accusations that the brand was sexualizing children. Balenciaga then issued a response.
“We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused. Our plush bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign,” the brand shared in a statement on Instagram. Balenciaga also added that they would “immediately remove the campaign from all platforms.”
In a second statement, Balenciaga acknowledged the inclusion of the Supreme Court ruling in the Garde-Robe campaign. It apologized for “displaying unsettling documents in our campaign.”
