Taylor Lautner Discusses His Breakup With Taylor Swift on New Podcast

Taylor Lautner shares rare insight on his breakup with pop star Taylor Swift, back in 2009, on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper.

Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift have maintained a close friendship for 14 years since their split. While Lautner has been widely considered to be Swift’s best ex by fans everywhere, the Twilight star shared insight on how they stayed on such good terms.

“Obviously every couple is different,” shared Lautner in a recent podcast episode with Alex Cooper.

“I think when you respect somebody for who they are in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive, and continue that love in a different way. And thankfully we had that. So after things ended between us — we were so young, I was 18 she was 20, 21 — we stayed friendly, we would see each other now and then.”

The actor admitted that even though the two would fall out of touch with one another, or go for periods without contact, their solid foundation and relationship made it easy to rekindle.

“I have always had the deepest respect for who she is as a person, before anything else,” he explained. “I would say one of the greater things to happen in my life over the last year is the rekindling of our friendship because she just is a wonderful person. She’s pretty great to have in your life.”

When the actor was asked to recall who it was that officially ended the two relationships, Lautner seemed a little hazy on the exact details. Later he finally admitted that it was Swift’s decision.

“I’m thinking back on exactly what happened but no, yeah. She did,” laughed Lautner as he shared the two’s split.

While some might find it awkward that their partner is hanging out with their ex, that’s far from the case for Lautner’s wife, Taylor Dome. Lautner and Dome tied the knot back in 2022. Moreover, Dome explained that Swift has always been inclusive of her in everything. “She’s just kind and very thoughtful. And she makes it very easy,” she stated.

The actor also shared that it was a never concern of his how his now wife and ex would get along. Dome is, after all, a certified Swiftie. In addition to that, the actor also talked about his and Dome’s relationship dynamics after marriage. Fans can watch the rest of the podcast here.
