Mark Zuckerberg is allegedly building a Hawaiian compound that includes an escape hatch, blind doors, and an underground bunker.

A recent Wired article citing sources and public records stated that the Meta CEO is constructing a special compound in Kauai, Hawaii. This compound is rumored to have a 5,000-square-foot underground bunker, an escape hatch, and is self-sustainable in terms of energy, food, and water supply.

Furthermore, the construction expenses for Zuckerberg’s Koolau Ranch are estimated to be around $100 million. Adding the $170 million he spent on buying the land, the total cost currently stands at around $270 million.

The project is set to feature around 30 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, and a network of almost a dozen tree houses connected by rope bridges. This allows the guests to move “while staying among the treetops,” reported Wired.

Additionally, the design includes two mansions joined by a tunnel that leads to the underground bunker. This bunker will feature an escape hatch and metal doors filled with concrete. Also, Zuckerberg’s library will include “blind doors” made to blend with the walls.

Zuckerberg is following in the footsteps of other tech moguls preparing for the end of the world.

Reddit’s CEO Steve Huffman stocked up on motorcycles, guns, and ammo. In his words, this is to “hole up in my house for some amount of time” and survive during a possible disaster.

Not only that, LinkedIn’s co-founder Reid Hoffman shared that he believes over half of Silicon Valley billionaires have put their money into some form of “apocalypse insurance,” such as an underground bunker.

Evidently, Zuckerberg is not the first to safeguard his future in the event of a world crisis, and he certainly won’t be the last.
