Jeannie Mai Refutes Claims of Restricting Daughter’s Time with Jeezy
In a recent court filing obtained by People Magazine, 44-year-old former The Real host, Jeannie Mai, denies allegations made in November that she is her 23-month-old daughter Monaco from having sufficient time with her father, Jay “Jeezy” Wayne Jenkins.”
In the legal paperwork, Mai Jenkins’ attorneys restated her apprehensions regarding the safety of her child.
“It is essential to clarify that Ms. Jenkins’ insistence on reasonable safety measures being put in place, such as safely securing and locking away all firearms that have been unsecured in the past, as well as having familiarity and properly trained caregivers, is absolutely not gatekeeping but rather a responsible effort to prioritize their daughter’s well-being,” the filing read.
“These requests are grounded in Ms. Jenkins’ genuine concern for the parties’ daughter’s safety and security, especially when under the care of others and traveling across the country, and are reasonable protective measures, not an attempt to restrict Mr. Jenkins’ access to their daughter,” it continued.
In late November, Jeezy submitted a request for a formalized custody arrangement, asserting that the ex-talk show host was creating obstacles for him to have time with their daughter, despite their earlier agreement on an informal visitation schedule.
Mai’s response continued, “These requests are grounded in Ms. Jenkins’ genuine concern for the parties’ daughter’s safety and security, especially when under the care of others and traveling across the country, and are reasonable protective measures, not an attempt to restrict Mr. Jenkins’ access to their daughter.”
According to TMZ, Mai emphasizes that she has been highly accommodating regarding Jeezy’s requests for time with their daughter. She asserts that she has granted him all the dates he has asked for, including an extended period over the Christmas holiday.
Mai affirms her absolute desire for Jeezy to play an active role in their daughter’s life. However, she emphasizes that her top priority is the safety of their child. In the documents, she argues that prioritizing safety is entirely reasonable and justifiable.
“The decision to end this chapter in my life was not made impulsively and comes with a heavy heart,” the Grammy-nominated artist stated of the split in October. “Despite this, my love and respect for Jeannie remain, and the time we spent together holds a cherished place in my heart.”
They tied the knot in March 2021 and welcomed their daughter, Monaco, in January 2022.
