Mothers’ Instinct New Trailer Release
The trailer for Benoît Delhomme’s upcoming thriller Mothers’ Instinct, starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, has been released.
Mothers’ Instinct follows two best friends, Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway), who are neighbors with a perfect traditional sixties suburban lifestyle. The inseparable pair have well-off husbands (portrayed by Josh Charles and Anders Danielsen Lie) and sons of the same age. However, tragedy strikes when Celine’s son Max dies from a balcony fall, which Alice bears witness to.
Following the events, Alice no longer trusts her son, Theo, around Celine, who she fears holds resentment. In the trailer, Alice shares, “I saw the look in her eyes. She thinks that I should’ve saved her son.” Their once-tight bond slowly falls apart as paranoia and guilt consume them, revealing the dark side of a mother’s love.

The psychological thriller is an adaptation of the 2012 French novel Derrière la Haine by Barbara Abel. The English translation of the book was later published on May 16, 2023, titled Mothers’ Instinct: A Novel of Suspense. Furthermore, this is the second time a film has been made based on Abel’s book. The first film was by Olivier Masset-Depasse, titled Duelles, in 2018.
Mothers’ Instinct will make the directorial debut of French cinematographer Benoît Delhomme, who has worked on well-known projects, such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and The Theory of Everything. He expressed his enthusiasm on Instagram, in addition to thanking the cast for being part of his new journey.
Along with the trailer for Mothers’ Instinct, the film’s poster was revealed on X in a thread, raising excitement.
