Selena Gomez is taking another break from social media. This comes after drama sparked at the Golden Globes.

On Tuesday, the Rare Beauty founder posted a video on her Instagram story of her boyfriend, record producer, Benny Blanco, hanging out with two kids. Gomez’s laughter filled the audio. “I’m off social media for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters,” she wrote.

What sparked her decision to log off social media? A video that went viral at the Golden Globes. In the clip, she was whispering to her music sensation best friend, Taylor Swift, and Miles Teller’s wife, Keleigh Sperry. As she was talking, both Swift and Sperry appeared shocked. The conversation was inaudible; the trio was talking and reacting. The popular theory circulating social media is that the Only Murders in the Building star was gossiping about how she asked the Wonka star, Timothée Chalamet, for a photo, and Kylie Jenner told her, “No.”

Immediately, the “Single Soon” singer denied these allegations in an E! News Instagram post. “Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s anyone’s business,” she wrote in the comments section. When a TMZ photographer asked about any beef between Gomez and Jenner, Chalamet denied it.

However, this isn’t the first time the Disney alumni has taken a break from social media. When the Israeli-Palestinian war started in October, the actress condemned the violence. Due to the backlash, Gomez briefly deactivated her account. “I’m done. I do not support any of what’s going on,” she signed off.

Last February, the Grammy-winning artist announced a social media break amid drama between her, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Bieber, citing that she was “too old” for it and that she needed to take care of her mental health. The longest social media hiatus she had was from 2019 until January 2023.

In the meantime, Selena Gomez’s music can be streamed on all streaming platforms.
